From Highway I-95 Southbound:
Take the Exit Number 318 (old exit #95) onto Rte 16 east, go five miles
Turn right onto Route 1, go two miles.
Turn left on King Street (following signs for Historic St. Augustine), go about
1 mile.
Turn left at the end of the city park "Plaza" onto Charlotte Street, go one
block.
We are on the corner of Charlotte and
Treasury Streets, in the pink 2 story building on your left.
Pass the building and turn into the metered parking
lot. If you are in a dormitory style room, try to park here. If you
are in a Private Room, go to the end of the parking lot follow it around to the
left. You will exit onto Treasury Street. Turn left (it's a one way
street!), and just past the house on your left is our parking lot. Please
pull up as far forward as possible.
From Highway I-95 Northbound:
Take Exit Number 311 (Highway 207) towards St. Augustine.
At the very end of Highway 207, take a left turn onto Highway 1 (Ponce De Leon)
North. At the next signal (King Street), turn right. Go six
blocks (as counted on the left hand side of the street) and then turn left on
Charlotte. Cross Cathedral Street, and the next street will be Treasury.
We are on the corner of Charlotte and

Pass the building and turn into the metered parking

----- BEWARE! if you get onto the Bridge of
Lion's ---you've gone too far ---
You may also conceivably end up on A1A headed into town, in that case, turn
right just before the light near the bridge, then take an immediate right onto
Charlotte street.
Parking:
For our Private Room guests, we
have room for 5 cars right next to the building, on Treasury Street (we assume
no liability for falling pecans!! or anything else for that matter ...) If
eveyone has a minivan or a suburban, space will be tight. We ask that you
park all the way forward as far as you can go if possible.
Parking is notoriously hard to
find in St. Augustine! Directly behind the Inn is a Public Metered Parking
Lot. The meters operate Monday-Saturday 8AM (Sharp!) to 6PM. They
cost 25 cents per hour (!) with a two hour max. Parking in this lot is
free on Sundays and Holidays. There is a new City Parking Garage
next to the main visitor's center at Cordova and Orange. There rates are
$1.50 per hour.
---- Parking from 5PM to 7AM on
Monday-Friday, 7 AM onwards on Saturday, and all day Sunday and Holidays (about
$6) in the Wachovia lot in front of our building.
From the St. Augustine
Greyhound Bus Station
The GREYHOUND Bus Station has moved relative to the old
guidebooks!! It is located 2.5 miles away from the hostel. As of yet there is no public
transportation from the station to St. Augustine. A check with Comfort Cab
revealed that the cost of a taxi journey from the Bus Station to the Hostel is
$5.50.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR GREYHOUND TRAVELERS
-
Walking: If you
insist on walking from Greyhound.....turn left on Highway 1 (at the Checkers
Restaurant) and then turn right at the next light (King Street), on your right will be a 'Lil Champ' market if you
should need any groceries (it's the closest market to the hostel), go five
blocks. Turn left (at the end of the City Park) onto Charlotte Street,
go for one block.
We are on the corner of Charlotte and
Treasury Streets
From the Jacksonville
Amtrak

From the Palatka
Amtrak
Train Station
-
So far I'm not aware of any public
transportation between Palatka and St. Augustine besides Greyhound.
And that Greyhound goes through Jacksonville! One Aussie recently took a
cab to cover the distance at a cost of $50!
-
You can of course hitch, and it shouldn't take too long to
get a ride, especially if you have a sign, and look semi-respectable.
From the Jacksonville Int'l Airport (JAX)

direct shuttle, but you have to reserve ahead of time, cost depends on arrival

Jacksonville Transit Authority - Sunshine
Bus Route
(not available Sundays)
[1]
At the AMTRAK STATION
take the City Bus:
Northside
"#M4 Moncrief A" to the downtown City Bus Station.
LEAVES every 30 minutes
30-45minutes travel time --- cost is 75 cents
[2]
From the downtown city bus
station (FCCJ), take R1 to the "Avenues Mall". Runs every 1/2 hour.
[3]
Then take the
Sunshine Bus (yellow vans),
they cost $1, but you must have exact change. Click on the link for
schedule/route info. You'd take the Purple Line and ask the driver to
let you off at King and Highway 1. Then cross the street and go down
King, turning left on Charlotte (approx 20 minutes). ATTN: be sure to
go down King on the side where ABC liquors is, or else you'll go down West
King which is a rough neighborhood.
