LOCAL ESSENTIAL SHOPPING GUIDE
Stewart's market on Anastasia: Good prices on citrus and local fruits and veggies, as well as meat and local shrimp. They have a shopping basket near the front of the store filled with their bargain veggies (OK, so 25% of the beans are bad, but the rest are good and it only cost a quarter!)
Food Way: A division of Broudy's. Good prices on milk and eggs, and sometimes local produce, but everything else is a bit overpriced. This is a good source of your Southern cuisine items, pork cracklins, pickled pigs feet, fatback, assorted pieces of hog, tripe, chitlins, smoked ham hocks, the list goes on...
Broudy's Liquors: Next to Food Way, just across Highway 1 on King Street and another location at the Cobblestone Village shopping center.. Sales every week, and sale priced items are often a bargain compared with ABC across the road.
Publix: This is where I go for my 1.5 Liter bottle of Rene Junot, only $5.99, and a decent wine, very decent for the price! Good prices on sale items, but everything else tends to be overpriced.
Winn Dixie: High prices, poor selection. It's on the way if you're walking here from Greyhound.
Bagelicious: The best bagels around and there's a baker there who uses the equipment at night to make really good artisanal bread, such as French, Italian, Cuban, and Jalapeno Cheddar. Read bread in these Wonder Bread times.
Kyle's Fish and Currie Brothers Vegetable/Fruit Stand: This is THE place to go for fresh veggies and fruits. Best prices in St. Augustine. Kyle's has the best fresh fish and hot smoked salmon around.
Lil' Champ convenience store: The closest market to downtown, but high prices. No fresh fruit/veggies.
Farmer's Markets: The one at the Ampitheatre on Anastasia on Saturdays from 730 to 1230. Breads, organic veggies, citrus, artisan cheeses from Georgia, reasonably priced fudge and more.
DeNoel Patisserie Francaise: Wonderful chocolate eclairs, chausssons aux pommes, and mousse cake. They also do sandwiches. Weds-Sun, 10-4.
