Just the facts:

From Highway I-95:
Take the Exit Number 318 (old exit #95) onto Rte 16 east, go five miles Turn right onto Route 1, go two miles.
Turn left on King Street (following signs for Historic St. Augustine), go about 1 mile. Turn left at the end of the city park "Plaza" onto Charlotte Street, go one block.  We are on the corner of Charlotte and Treasury Streets.----- BEWARE! if you get onto the Bridge of Lion's ---you've gone too far ---
You may also conceivably end up on A1A headed into town, in that case, turn right just before the light near the bridge, then take an immediate right onto Charlotte street.
Parking:  Parking is notoriously hard to find in St. Augustine!  Directly behind the hostel is a Public Metered Parking Lot.  The meters operate Monday-Saturday 8AM (Sharp!) to 6PM.  They cost 25 cents per hour (!) with a two hour max.  Parking in this lot is free on Sundays and Holidays.  For our Private Room guests, we have a couple of spaces right next to the building, on Treasury Street.  Please call for availability (we assume no liability for falling pecans.)
---- Parking from 5PM to 7AM on Monday-Friday, 7 AM onwards on Saturday, and all day Sunday and Holidays (about $5) in the Wachovia lot in front of our building. 

From the St. Augustine Greyhound Bus Station
Walking: ( about 2.5 miles)
Walk out of the St.Augustine bus station, turn left on Dobbs Road, then right on Highway 207.  Turn left onto US 1 (at the intersection is a Winn-Dixie supermarket in case you need anything),  turn right on King Street toward old town, on your right will be a 'Lil Champ' market if you should need any small groceries (it's the closest market to the hostel, but expensive), go five blocks.  Turn left (at the end of the City Park) onto Charlotte Street, go for one block. We are on the corner of Charlotte and Treasury Streets
Taxi cab ( tel: 829-2256 YellowCab ) cost only about $4.25 from the bus station

From the Jacksonville Amtrak Train Station

When arriving in Jacksonville AMTRAK STATION after 3:30pm, take a taxi to the Jacksonville Greyhound Station
cost is around $8.  Then the Greyhound Bus (click here for current schedules)  LEAVES at 5:15pm or 8:30pm
1 hour travel time --- cost is $9.25
In St. Augustine, follow the above "walking" directions
When arriving in Jacksonville AMTRAK STATION before 3:30pm
you can take a JTA (Jacksonville Transportation Authority) bus to the Greyhound Bus Station. 

From the Palatka Amtrak Train Station

So far I'm not aware of any public transportation between Palatka and St. Augustine besides Greyhound.  One Aussie recently took a cab to cover the distance at a cost of $50!  You can of course hitch, and it shouldn't take too long to get a ride, especially if you have a sign, and look semi-respectable.  Another person was assured that Greyhound offered a service to St. Augustine....but it went through Jacksonville!

From the Jacksonville Int'l Airport (JAX)

The best option is to take a direct shuttle, but you have to reserve ahead of time, cost depends on arrival time:

When arriving in Jacksonville AIRPORT
Follow the arrows downstairs to the 'Local Transportation' area
Look for the info booth between stop #3 and #5
Take an EXPRESS SHUTTLE VAN to the Jacksonville Greyhound Station.  Cost is around $20.50 ($24.50 if you take a TAXI) then follow the directions noted above.

At the AMTRAK STATION take the City Bus: Northside "#M4 Moncrief A" to the downtown City Bus Station.
LEAVES every 30 minutes
30-45minutes travel time --- cost is 75 cents

take the City Bus: Southside "#L7 Soutel-Avenues" bus  to the St.Augustine "Avenues" Mall
LEAVES every hour
1 hour travel time --- cost is 75 cents

At the St. Augustine "AVENUES' MALL, take the: "Sunshine" Bus to the St. Augustine downtown Bus Station.
LEAVES hourly 6am-5pm (M,T,W,Th,F,St)
30 minutes travel time --- cost is $1

Dorm beds are always $18, tax included, unless you're a cross country cyclist, in which case it's $15 tax included.

Sun-Thurs (non holidays):     Room with Private Bath: $45-60 plus tax

Fri-Sat (non holidays) :    Room with Private Bath: $65-70 plus tax

Holidays and special events:  Room with Private Bath: $70-80 plus tax
